Subject: 9525/Electrical Code/City Code Date: Fri, 27 Apr 1990 13:13:00 -0500 ORDINANCE NO. 9525 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 14-15, PART II, CHATTANOOGA CITY CODE TO REVISE FEES FOR INTERIOR WIRED SIGNS AND APPROVAL OF NONLISTED AND NONLABELED SIGNS AND SHOWCASES; TO AMEND SECTION 14-78 TO PROVIDE NEW EXAMINATION FEES FOR ELECTRICAL LICENSE HOLDERS; TO AMEND SECTION 14-79 TO ESTABLISH LICENSE FEE FOR JOURNEYMAN SIGN ELECTRICIANS; TO AMEND SECTIONS 14-82 (A) AND (1) TO PROVIDE FOR A LICENSE CLASSIFICATION FOR SIGN JOURNEYMAN; AND TO AMEND SECTION 14-90 TO ALLOW TEMPORARY SIGN JOURNEYMEN LICENSES TO BE ISSUED UNDER THE CHATTANOOGA CITY ELECTRICAL ORDINANCES. __________________________ SECTION 1. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That Section 14-15(4), Part II, Chattanooga City Code, be and is hereby amended by deleting same in its entirety and substituting in lieu thereof a new Section 14-15(4) and (5) to read as follows: (4) Fees for interior-wired signs: 25 square feet or less....... $10.00 Over 25 square feet.......... $10.00 plus .10 for each additional square foot over 25 square feet Neon transformers............ $10.00 per transformer with maximum of 3 transformers (5) Fees for approval of non-listed or non-labeled signs and showcases................ $10.00 each SECTION 2. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED That Section 14-78, Part II, Chattanooga City Code, concerning Examination fees be amended by inserting the following words and phrases: Journeyman Electrician ............ 50.00 Class 1 Electrical Contractor ..... 75.00 Class 2 Residential Electrical Contractor ...................... 75.00 Class 3 Electrical Sign Contractor. 75.00 Residential Electrician............ 50.00 Plant Electrician ................. 50.00 Plant Master Electrician .......... 75.00 Sign Journeyman Electrician ....... 50.00 SECTION 3. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED That Section 14-79, Part II, Chattanooga City Code, concerning license fees be amended by inserting the following words and phrases directly under the heading 'Journeyman Electrician': Journeyman Sign Electrician........ $10.00 SECTION 4. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED That Subsection 14-82(a), Part II, Chattanooga City Code, be deleted in its entirety and the following be substituted in lieu thereof: (a) Nine (9) classes of licenses shall be issued by the Board of Electrical Examiners. SECTION 5. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED That a new Subsection 14-82(1) shall be adopted and inserted immediately after Subsection 14-82(k) as follows: (1) A sign journeyman electrician license shall entitle the holder thereof to install, repair, alter, add to or change any electrical wires, apparatus, raceways, conduit or any part thereof on electrical signs under the direct supervision of a Class III electrical sign contractor; provided, however, that no work or connections by a sign journeyman electrician shall be performed on existing electrical circuits more than four (4) feet from the sign to be installed or altered. SECTION 6. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED That Section 14-90, Part II, Chattanooga City Code, be amended by deleting said section in its entirety and substituting in lieu thereof the following: Section 14-90. Temporary Certificate. Anything here and above to the contrary notwithstanding, however, it shall be lawful for the Board of Electrical Examiners through the Office of the Chief Electrical Inspector of the City, to issue a temporary journeyman, sign journeyman, or residential electrician's license to any applicant who presents evidence of qualification as a journeyman, sign journeyman or residential electrician and pays the prescribed fee. The Chief Electrical Inspector shall determine the qualification of the applicant and may at his discretion restrict the limits of the use of the temporary license. The temporary license shall be valid for one (1) year from the date of issue and may be renewed for not more than one (1) additional year, at the discretion of the Chief Electrical Inspector. The intent of this limit of renewal is to restrict one (1) individual to no more than two (2) years of operation under a temporary license. The Board of Electrical Examiners may revoke for just cause the said temporary license permit at any time. SECTION 7. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED That this Ordinance shall become effective within two (2) weeks from the date of passage in accordance with Tennessee law.
